Gender-Lens Giving Patterns & Investing Strategies for 2019

Mary Jovanovich, Schwab Charitable

This session will explore the growing financial power of women in the U.S. and why more women than ever before are taking the lead in philanthropy.  Mary Jovanovich from Schwab CharitableTM will share academic and industry research on the behaviors and motivations of women donors.  Based on the latest thinking from the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, she will also discuss four investment strategies to better engage this demographic. In addition, the session will address how to use donor-advised fund accounts (DAFs) to potentially enhance community-based giving.

Attendees will:

  1. Gain an understanding of the most recent research on women’s giving, including motivations, behaviors, causes, and possible outcomes.
  2. Learn four investment strategies that can help fuel the momentum behind investing in organizations, products and services that benefit women and should be at the front of advisors’ minds in 2019.
  3. Hear how to make a bigger impact using DAFs to increase community-based giving and create new ways to reach women at all levels of society with resources to grow their power.
