About the webinar...

Most philanthropic advisors (independent advisors, those situated within financial firms, and even those at community foundations) focus on supporting the top 1% of donors—folks giving away, often times, many millions of dollars, on up. These individuals often have complex financial and estate planning needs and require a high-touch approach. But what about donors who fall in the top 2-10% of givers, those giving away about $10K-$500K/year? There may be 9-10M high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals who fall into this segment, many of whom are giving “reactively.” This is a missed opportunity: these donors could benefit from brief philanthropic support to help them develop a charitable strategy and move them into action, which will unlock more dollars for the social sector more thoughtfully and quickly.

In this talk, Erinn Andrews will share the insights she gleaned from running a research lab at Stanford’s Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society: researching high-net-worth donor behavior and training financial advisors on how to talk about philanthropy with their clients. These insights led her to identify a gap in the philanthropic sector which she is addressing through her organization, GiveTeam. She will share GiveTeam’s novel approach to moving donors toward intentional giving, helping donors unlock more charitable dollars, more thoughtfully, and more quickly, most often from donor-advised funds.

About the presenter...

Erinn Andrews
Founder and CEO of GiveTeam

Erinn is a social entrepreneur and innovator who has been actively engaged in the philanthropic sector for almost 15 years. Most recently, she led the Effective Philanthropy Learning Initiative at Stanford’s Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (PACS) where she conducted research to understand donor behavior, published resources for high-capacity donors and advisors supporting high-capacity donors, and developed innovative education programs—for donors and financial advisors.

Prior to Stanford PACS, Erinn led GuideStar’s (now Candid) nonprofit strategy, managing the largest database of nonprofit information in the US. While at GuideStar, she developed and launched the GuideStar bronze, silver, gold, and platinum levels of distinction, encouraging more organizations to self-report qualitative and (standardized) quantitative impact data.

After earning her B.A. and M.A. from Stanford University, she launched a start-up nonprofit called Philanthropedia (with funding from the Hewlett Foundation) to identify high-impact nonprofits across multiple cause-areas. Philanthropedia was ultimately acquired by GuideStar.

Erinn serves on the national board of International Advisors in Philanthropy, acts as a “Kitchen Cabinet” advisor to Northern California Grantmakers, is a member of P150 (an exclusive community of philanthropic advisors supported by Schmidt Futures), and is a member of the Peninsula Latina Giving Circle.
