Giving Games & Effective Altruism: Identifying High Impact Organizations
The session will use the "Giving Games" model, which includes equal parts presentation, collaboration, and conversation. Giving Games teaches the merits of evidence-based donations and how to judge nonprofits by effectiveness. Join Kathryn Mecrow-Flynn, CEO of WANBAM and former Philanthropic Educator for The Life You Can Save, along with Bill Lane, Head of Individual Giving at Population Services International (PSI), to breakdown the concepts of effective altruism, understand how we can “give smarter,” and learn more about the high-impact programs, like digital health technology, at PSI.

Kathryn Mecrow-Flynn
CEO of WANBAM
Kathryn Mecrow-Flynn started her career in international
development and human rights public interest litigation. Five years ago, she
became involved in Effective Altruism. This culminated in her running the UK
operations of the Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA). She then worked as the
Curriculum Developer and Philanthropic Educator for The Life You Can Save where she focused upon the Giving Games Project.
She founded WANBAM in 2019 with the aim
of inspiring and supporting women, trans people of any gender, and non-binary
people pursuing high-impact career paths. She also acts as a consultant for high-impact
organizations. |

| | Bill Lane
Head of Individual Giving at PSI Bill Lane is the Head of Individual Giving at Population Services International (PSI),
focusing on securing private sector resources from individuals and family
foundations to scale PSI's work, reimagining how to bring quality healthcare
closer to those who need it most. Prior to PSI, Bill served as the Director of Development
at FINCA International (FINCA) and its European affiliate, FINCA U.K. In this
capacity, he led a diverse global team and developed a multi-year fundraising
strategy that bridged private sector philanthropy and the impact investment
world to support FINCA's work.
Throughout his social impact career, Bill has helped
organizations achieve impressive growth rates by partnering with and advising
top philanthropists, foundations, and corporations throughout North America and
Europe. He has mobilized more than $53 million to support poverty alleviation,
global health, and women's social and economic empowerment, and has held senior
fundraising roles at several high-impact organizations including, Malaria No
More, Women for Women International, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS
Foundation, and the Red Cross.
