About this Event
Do you know how to help your clients with donating complex assets other than cash to the charitable causes they support? For this Orange County Advisors in Philanthropy (OC AiP) Speakers Series program, Giovanni (Gio) Kotorly, Vice President, Foundation Consulting and Management of Sterling Foundation Management LLC, will review different types of complex assets and some important information to keep in mind when considering them for charitable gifts. Complex Assets as Charitable Gifts, include:
- Real Estate
- Privately Held Business Interests to include:
- C-Corp and S-Corp Stock
- LLC or LP Interests
- Other Alternatives (touched on briefly):
- Life Insurance Policies
- Retirement Plans
As Vice President of Sterling Foundation Management, Gio leads the Foundation Consulting and Management division. In this role, Gio provides charitable expertise and advisory services to help individuals, families, and corporations achieve their philanthropic goals through high-touch, and customized services that are solution-oriented. In this time at Sterling, Gio has helped guide numerous charitable organizations and donors make an impact with their philanthropy in an efficient and effective manner.
Prior to joining Sterling, Gio was a leader in PricewaterhouseCooper’s Public Sector Practice where he led complex projects driving transformational change. Gio is also a proud combat veteran having served as an officer in the US Army for over 20 years. Gio was awarded with several decorations including two Bronze Stars, a Legion of Merit, and a Valorous Unit Award.
Gio has always been passionate about community service and philanthropy. He has volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, and Knights of Columbus. He is also involved with the USO, and supp0ort veterans through Fischer House, and the Veterans Administration hospital. In addition, Gio supports Children’s National Hospital, Best Buddies International, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. He is a past board member of the Hispanic Alumni of Notre Dame and the Notre Dame Club of Washington, D.C.
Gio earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree from The George Washington University where he was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.
You will leave the program with an understanding of donating complex assets and the tools that you can use immediately to assist your clients.
