How Do You Engage Family Members Over Time?
Family members of different generations or branches may have altogether different interests, live in different locations, have varying levels of expertise, or slip into unproductive family dynamics when you get them in a room together. How can advisors foster a philanthropy experience that family members want to take part in, that keeps them interested and engaged (even having fun!) over time, and that actually produces real change for the community? In this lively session, we’ll delve into unproductive family dynamics, uncover what’s worked best in other families, and what participants can take home and put into practice.
About the presenter...
Suzanne Hammer is the founder of Hammer & Associates, a global philanthropy advisory firm based in the Denver, Colorado area. Suzanne has worked with family foundations, family offices and enterprises, large and small, for more than a decade—helping them engage the next generation, transform their “spray & pray” approach to philanthropy, and strengthen the communities they support. She is a dedicated Rotarian, a backcountry skier who has polar-plunged into the icy waters of Antarctica (three times!) and lived to tell the tale. Suzanne co-produced Philanthropy in the Family Office: A Global Perspective and has authored a series of toolkits for family offices called EngagedPhilanthropy.
