The 3 Rs of International Grantmaking: Regulation Compliance, Risk Mitigation, and Reputation Protection

Ted Hart, CAP®, ACFRE, CAF America

With trends showing that Americans continue to give internationally, clients are increasingly relying on their advisors to assist them with their philanthropic strategies. To capture this momentum, advisors should be well-versed in the intricacies of giving beyond the borders of the US.

Join us on a journey as we take a deep dive into the complex world of international philanthropic
giving. Learn about the challenges, but more importantly explore the opportunities brought to you by building international philanthropic giving into your portfolio.

This session will address the regulatory framework for international giving, provide the latest updates on IRS guidelines and requirements, assist advisors in addressing international philanthropy with their clients, and provide a detailed narrative on how risk, reputation, and regulations are vital to international grantmaking.

Attendees will:

  1. Learn about the latest IRS regulations for international giving.
  2. Have a shared understanding of the 3 Rs of international grantmaking: Regulation compliance, Risk mitigation, and Reputation protection.
  3. Gain an understanding of some important current issues in country-specific legal contexts that affect international philanthropy from the United States.
