Planned Giving Tools Review After 2017 Tax Reform Act

This presentation will be a review of all the major and planned giving tolls and techniques considering the Tax Reform Act of 2017. What vehicles are enhanced, which one will have a negative impact and what to advise potential donors and/or non-profit organizations. New tools that may be available in 2018 including the possible change in tax law to allow Charitable Remainder Trusts to be shareholders of S-Corporation stock. Discussion of the use of DAF's to bunch charitable deductions considering the increased standard deduction. Possible "Universal Charitable Deduction" to create an above the line deduction. 

Attendees will:

  1. Learn more about the tax impact on charitable giving tools in 2018.
  2. Receive a review of all the major and planned giving resources for 2018.

Charles J. McLucas, Jr., CPA/PFS is the founder and President of Charitable Trust Administrators, Inc., (CTAI).  Mr. McLucas graduated from California State University, Fullerton.

In 1980 Mr. McLucas moved to Northern California where he established a fee-only CPA, financial planning practice and began offering charitable trust administration services through his firm.  In 1995 he established CTAI to provide third-party administrative services for donors who desire to be their own trustees and to provide full back office support for nonprofit organizations that do not have fully staffed planned giving departments. 

Mr. McLucas is a frequent lecturer and has published several articles on the use of charitable remainder unitrusts in the Journal of Personal Financial Planning and other periodicals.  He is on the faculty of the Certified Specialist in Planned Giving professional designation program as administered by the American Institute of Philanthropic Studies and Long Beach State University.
