It would be practically impossible to be alive in America and not have some deep reaction to the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina. We live in the greatest country in the world and we take so much for granted, not the least of which is our own comfort and safety. To witness the destruction of Katrina is to understand the frailty and vulnerability of our lives. Mostly we ignore the possibility of anything like this happening to us. For hundreds of thousands of fellow citizens, that possibility no longer exists.
As advisors who live in the world of philanthropy, this is a time for us to take action. Whatever we can do, let’s do it. Whatever small difference we can make, let’s make it. AIP has a small amount of money in its Donor Advised Fund. It’s only $1,000. This morning, I’ve asked Debbie Tinkler to call a special board meeting so that we can authorize a donation of all or part of this fund for the relief effort. I have no doubt that the board will do so because I know the board and I know you. I also know it’s not enough. Please, reach into your pockets and reach into your heart and help. However you can.
You can donate to our Donor Advised Fund (DAF) by sending your check to American Endowment Foundation; PO Box 911; Hudson, OH 44236. Please note in a letter or on your check that your donation is for the AiP DAF and if you would like it earmarked for hurricane relief. If you have questions, contact Debbie or Seth at 888-597-6575.
Thank you.
