About the Advisors in Philanthropy Foundation, Inc.
The mission of the AiP Foundation is to uplift individuals and communities by encouraging and supporting the professional education of advisors in philanthropy. We seek to improve the stewardship of charitable funds, thereby creating a more effective philanthropic sector. We will accomplish this by properly training advisors to provide additional sources of charitable funding.
The AiP Foundation provides scholarships of $500 per qualified student to support the highest level of education of philanthropic advisors in advanced charitable planning techniques, sound giving practices, and professional stewardship. In so doing, we seek to improve the donor’s understanding of charitable funding, resulting in more gifts and endowing nonprofits making a difference in communities across the country.
We recognize there is a far greater need for highly educated advisors in philanthropy as evidenced in a study by the Journal of Gift Planning
and a Fidelity Charitable study
released in 2012.
There are many excellent resources for philanthropy education, however, we have found the coursework for post graduate level education with the American College of Financial Services’ Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP designation) worthy of our support. The CAP program is unique in that it is designed to bring financial, tax, and legal advisors into collaboration with fundraisers to help clients and donors achieve their highest aspirations for self, family, and community. CAP trained professionals work within communities with donors and clients who are going through an estate planning, financial planning, or business transition planning process. As of January 2014, 998 CAPs have been awarded by The American College.
Our aim is to create more chartered advisors in philanthropy who specialize in long term charitable planning and who can help support a robust infrastructure that protects and promotes a vibrant and responsive non-profit sector and philanthropy.
